In the past few cycles, South Carolina has emerged as a critical stop on the way to each party’s presidential nomination. As the first Southern state in the primary, it represents an opportunity for Republican candidates to demonstrate their support in the region.
On February 26, Governance Studies at Brookings held a virtual event moderated by Senior Fellow William Galston with an expert panel to discuss the results and implications of the South Carolina Republican primary. Panelists also examined the state’s role in shaping the subsequent nomination race.
