The 2023 off-year elections are a time to look for voting patterns that may affect the 2024 presidential election. What will the results say about the strength of the two parties? Are there significant changes in the composition of the electorate that could be a harbinger of things to come in November 2024? What issues seemed to affect voters most? Are these issues national or more local? Are there any clues as to how the presidential candidates might do in the primaries or in the general election?
On November 9, Governance Studies at Brookings hosted a discussion moderated by Senior Fellow E.J. Dionne and a panel of experts to discuss the results of the 2023 election and what the results could mean for 2024 and beyond. Read more from Brookings scholars on the 2023 elections.
