Since the 2010 earthquake which displaced 1.5 million people at the peak of the crisis, killed hundreds of thousands of people and caused millions of dollars of damage, Haiti has been on a constant road to reconstruction. Four years later, over 1.4 million people have been relocated to permanent housing, seven ministries are being rebuilt, over 500 miles of road have been paved and over 500,000 people now receive social protection benefits, where before there were none. Haiti is a nation where both challenges and promises are numerous, but progress is being made under the country’s leadership of President Michel Martelly and Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe.

On September 4, the Brookings-LSE Project on Internal Displacement will host a conversation with Prime Minister Lamothe on reconstruction efforts, security concerns and democracy promotion in Haiti. Elizabeth Ferris, senior fellow and co-director of the Brookings-LSE Project on Internal Displacement, will moderate the event.

After the program, the panelists will take audience questions.
