Egyptian Government’s Goal Is to Eradicate Dissent

In an interview on NPR today about Egypt’s widening crackdown on the Muslim Brotherhood and now journalists, Shadi Hamid, a fellow and director of research for the Brookings Doha Center, told host Renee Montagne that:

we’re not just seeing a return to the old Mubarak era, we’re seeing something considerably worse. The goal here isn’t to restrict dissent, it’s to eradicate dissent.
