Objections to Changes in the American Community Survey

The Department of Commerce is considering eliminating key questions about marriage and the family from the American Community Survey (ACS). This is a bad idea. In our letter to the Department setting out our objections, we say: “The proposed elimination of these questions on marriage hinders researchers’ and policymakers’ ability to document changing relationship choices of Americans and predict future trends in family formation.”

Reactions to the proposed changes will be accepted through December 30, 2014. See the Federal Register for more information on how to submit written comments.
