Vital Voices Global Partnership and the Women’s Foreign Policy Group will partner with the Brookings Institution’s Poverty and the Global Economy Initiative to co-host a panel discussion Wednesday at Brookings on “Emerging Trends in Women’s Global Leadership.” The program will feature the Vital Voices 2004 nominees—prominent women who are working to effect change and who are facing challenges in building democracy, strengthening economies, and defending human rights. The discussion will highlight a number of critical issues, including:
Combating the rise of human trafficking in the former Soviet Union and around the world;
Fighting for democracy and economic stability in Venezuela;
Defending freedom of speech and working for peace in Haiti;
Safeguarding human rights in Yemen and throughout the Middle East.
Refreshments will be served.
