Brookings Metro developed this resource to help practitioners, policymakers, and journalists track the state and local opportunities made possible by the federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) of 2021 and Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) of 2022. This page includes an interactive database of IIJA awards by state and metro area; an overview of the IIJA and the IRA’s programs, plus current Notices of Funding Opportunities (NOFO); and links to key internal and external resources. For questions and feedback, please submit inquiries to [email protected].
Awards data
This interactive consolidates all the IIJA awards as of August 15, 2024, consistent with White House-published data. We present the award data at both the state and metropolitan levels. Since not all award data is available at a local level—and since not every local project includes a city name, county name, or clear geographic coordinates—the state and metropolitan data should not be directly compared. The tabs above the map let you change how awards are geographically grouped—either by state or metropolitan area—and the unit of measurement. By default, the map displays state awards per capita. You can filter the awards using seven distinct categories; click “Show more filters” to see the full list. The table below the map is sortable by column. Complete award data is available for download here.

Program guide
This interactive database offers more detail on the IIJA and IRA’s individual programs. Use filters to select programs based on their topic and subtopic areas; funding methods; potential qualification of climate and workforce awards; and if the program was new under each law. The database also includes NOFO information as of August 15, 2024, including whether the NOFO is currently open. Our raw data is available for download here. Explore the distribution of likely spending within various topics and sub-topics by clicking within regions of the chart. Hover over the chart for more information about a given topic or program. You can also look at both laws together (by default) or separately. Note: The summary metrics and table below will change as you zoom in or out of the chart.
