About the Speaker

An expert on the Middle East regional system, Dr. Abdel Monem Said Aly is one of Egypt’s most renowned political analysts. He is currently the director of the Al-Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies in Cairo and a columnist for Egypt’s Al-Ahram, its main Arabic daily. He is also a regular commentator on political affairs for Orbit TV. He has just joined the Saban Center at Brookings as a Visiting Fellow.

Dr. Said Aly’s most recent work is a collaborative effort with Israeli political analyst Shai Feldman entitled Ecopolitics: Changing the Regional Context of Arab-Israeli Peacemaking, a project sponsored and published by the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard University. The monograph focused on the need to shape the regional environment in ways that contribute to a resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
