The Brookings Institution and the
Brookings Center on the United States and France
cordially invite you to a discussion and reception to announce the publication of
The French Challenge: Adapting to Globalization.
The French Challenge shows how globalization challenges France, and explores the real, if often underestimated, measures the country has taken to adapt to it. Gordon and Meunier examine the profound recent changes in the French economy and the reasons for France’s efforts to defend French culture. They show how globalization contributes to the restructuring of the French political spectrum and the blurring of traditional differences between left and right. Finally, they explore France’s effort to tame globalization-maîtriser la mondialisation-and the possible consequences and lessons of the French stance for the rest of the world.
