Teaching at the Right Level is a ‘smart buy’ for learning, but we need to rethink how we support teachers
America’s future economic opportunity, international competitiveness, and national security are all reliant on young people’s mastery of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) subjects. Yet, strong headwinds—ranging from pandemic learning losses to increasing student disengagement—have thwarted K-12 students’ progress in these areas. Meanwhile, technological advances around artificial intelligence offer both opportunities and new threats, creating uncertainty about whether and how STEM instructional models should be shifting for the future.
On June 10, the Brown Center on Education Policy at Brookings hosted a webinar to discuss how teachers can productively engage K-12 students in effective STEM instruction. Panelists explored how leaders and policymakers can shift their approaches to STEM standards and curricula in light of new technologies.
