Global Education Monitoring Report launch: Education for people and planet, creating sustainable futures for all
Past Event
UNESCO recently launched its 2016 Global Education Monitoring Report, an annual publication that monitors progress toward the education targets in the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals. The report establishes that education is at the core of achieving every one of the goals, which include, among others, poverty reduction, hunger eradication, gender equality, and women’s empowerment. Further, as a supplement to the report, the Gender Review for Creating Sustainable Futures for All focuses on the challenges facing girls and women because of the disadvantage they continue to experience in and beyond education. Both the reports underline the urgency that we face, and emphasize the need to support quality education for all as a catalyst of transformation and progress.
On November 29, the Center for Universal Education at Brookings, the Global Campaign for Education-U.S., and the Global Education Monitoring Report team will host a discussion on the two publications honing in on the recommendations and challenges ahead. This event will include a presentation by Aaron Benavot, director of the Global Education Monitoring Report team, followed by a panel discussion, moderated by Rebecca Winthrop, senior fellow and director of the Center for Universal Education at Brookings.
After the session, panelists will take audience questions.
