The 21st Century Defense Initiative and the Strategic Studies Institute of the U.S. Army War College hosted Representative Ike Skelton for a lunch-time discussion on the topic of “Game Changers” and the 21st century military. Described in such terms as “innovators,” “change agents,” “advanced” thinkers, or “change-orientated personalities,” such individuals are often viewed as essential for organizations to face a changing environment. But organizations in general, and militaries in particular, face deep challenges in how to foster, train, integrate and retain such leaders.
Representative Skelton chairs the House Armed Services Committee, and has represented the 4th District of Missouri since 1977. He has a lengthy track record of supporting and pushing cutting-edge training and leadership development.
Dr. Peter W. Singer, senior fellow and director of the 21st Century Defense Initiative at Brookings, introduced the speakers and moderated the discussion. This event was held on the record, and a transcript will be available shortly.
