Roosa Chair in International Economics at Brookings discussed the paper titled, “Rules versus discretion: Assessing the debate over the conduct of monetary policy” by John Taylor of Stanford at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston Conference on October 13, 2017. The discussion addresses the longstanding debate on how to set boundaries between rule-based and discretionary policies in the current economic environment, and its impact on the conduct of monetary policy.
