August 26 is Women’s Equality Day, designated by the U.S. Congress to commemorate the anniversary of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution—enfranchising American women—coming into effect in 1920. Today, Jenny Perlman Robinson, a nonresident fellow with the Center for Universal Education at Brookings, joined in a Google Hangout sponsored by Camfed, the Campaign for Female Education, to discuss the challenges of educating girls worldwide.
Watch the hangout video below, which starts about 25 minutes into the discussion:
Robinson notes in the video that while great progress has been made in getting more children, especially girls, into school, there are (at least) four key challenges that remain.
The Center for Universal Education at Brookings (CUE) has conducted significant research in the area of promoting girls’ education, including:
- The Importance of Education: Reflections on Michelle Obama’s Trip to Africa
- Promoting Girls’ Education in India
- Malala’s Attack and the Fight for Girls’ Education Mark International Day of the Girl Child
- Promoting Girls’ Education in Developing Countries
