Juan D. Barón

Senior Economist, Education Global Practice – World Bank Group

Juan D. Barón is a Senior Economist in the Education Global Practice, specializing in education initiatives across West and Central Africa, South Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, and other regions. With a strong background in analytical and lending activities, he has made significant contributions to education programs in multiple countries, including the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Jordan, Pakistan, and across regions such as the Middle East and North Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, South Asia, and Sub-Saharan Africa. Driven by a blend of quantitative and qualitative research methods, including impact evaluations, he focuses on critical areas such as labor economics, gender equality, and the economics of education, among others. Dr. Barón brings a wealth of experience from his previous roles at the World Bank’s Poverty Unit in Africa and the Central Bank of Colombia. Holding a PhD in Economics from the Australian National University, he not only leads the Service Delivery and Management Capacity Thematic Group but also actively promotes learning on the implementation of educational technology (EdTech), including Teach at the Right Level strategies.
