Senator Joseph I. Lieberman (D-Conn.), a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and former presidential and vice presidential candidate, offered his assessment of U.S.-Iraq policy in a speech hosted by the Saban Center for Middle East Policy at the Brookings Institution on Monday, April 26. Senator Lieberman’s remarks addressed the changing nature of the war in Iraq, outline policy proposals for winning it, and challenge political leaders from both parties to strengthen support on the homefront for the war effort.

Following his remarks, Senator Lieberman participated in a panel discussion on Iraq with three Brookings scholars—James B. Steinberg, director of Foreign Policy Studies, Kenneth M. Pollack, director of research at the Saban Center for Middle East Policy, and Michael E. O’Hanlon, a senior fellow in Foreign Policy Studies—and took questions from the audience.
