The United States experienced unprecedented threats to democracy and the rule of law after the 2020 election, and these consequential threats remain. Understanding these risks is essential to the continuance of American democracy. How will federal, state, and local officials and other stakeholders respond to similar threats in connection with the 2024 general election?
On October 28, the Anti-Corruption, Democracy, and Security Project at Brookings held an event with election and democracy experts to discuss challenges and opportunities for protecting election administration and election integrity. Panelists unpacked the strengths and weaknesses of the systems in place to uphold the democratic process.
