What do Indian foreign policy-makers and opinion-shapers think about India’s rise, its role in the world, and its foreign and domestic policy challenges? In December 2018, Brookings India conducted a survey of India’s strategic community, including current and former diplomats, bureaucrats, military commanders, intelligence officers, and political leaders, as well as media commentators, scholars at universities and think tanks, and members of the business community.

The survey asked respondents about their views on China, Pakistan, West Asia, and the United States as well as on trade agreements, security challenges, and the use of force. The findings suggest certain differences between age cohorts and sectors, as well as between the opinions of the strategic community and those of the public.

The results of the survey, the first of its kind, will be released at Brookings India on Friday, March 1, 2019. To present the findings of the survey, Brookings India will be hosting a discussion featuring Dhruva Jaishankar, Fellow, Foreign Policy, Brookings India. The discussants will be Sanjaya Baru, Distinguished Fellow, United Service Institution of India and Yamini Aiyar, President and Chief Executve, Centre for Policy Research.

This discussion will be open to the public and press, and is on-the-record. All participants are requested to register their attendance with Nitika Nayar at [email protected].
