A conversation with Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller

With the inflation rate coming down, the labor market still tight, and a soft landing in sight, the Federal Reserve faces some big questions this year: Has the war on inflation really been won? On January 16, Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller offered his outlook for the economy and monetary policy. Following his remarks, he responded to questions from David Wessel, director of the Hutchins Center on Fiscal and Monetary Policy at Brookings, and from the in-person and virtual audiences. Nominated by President Donald Trump, Waller joined the seven-member Federal Reserve Board in December 2020 after 11 years as research director of the St. Louis Federal Reserve Bank.
