Making Migration a Development Factor

The Case of North and West Africa

By International Institute for Labor Studies
makingmigrationadevelopmentfactor

With many workers relocating to Europe, African countries face the challenge of achieving growth and development while much of their labor force is leaving.

This book focuses on Algeria, Mauritania, Morocco, Senegal, and Tunisia, examining the many ways that migration—combined with sound labor markets—can better support development. It addresses topics such as the effects of the global crisis on migrant workers and their families; reducing “brain drain” resulting from the emigration of skilled migrants; and creating better synergies between migration, employment, and development.
