Michael H. Armacost is Shorenstein Distinguished Fellow and director of the Walter H. Shorenstein forum at the Asia-Pacific Resarch Center at Stanford University. He is the former president of the Brookings Institution and former U.S. ambassador to Japan and the Philippines.
