Editor’s Note: In collaboration with the Financial Times (FT), Eswar Prasad, Karim Foda and Arnav Sahu of Brookings have developed a set of composite indexes which track the global economic recovery. The Financial Times has produced the Tracking Indexes for the Global Economic Recovery (TIGER) interactive map, which appears on the Financial Times Web site.
The global economic recovery has stalled and become unbalanced, with the U.S. now the sole major economy still showing signs of strength. Growth in China and many other major emerging markets seems to be losing momentum.
The Brookings-FT Tiger index shows that many advanced economies are struggling while emerging market economies are continuing to cool off. Click a country name below the global Overall Growth Index to view charts for the main TIGER indexes by country and charts for the indicators that make up the indexes, which are broken down by real activity, financial and confidence indicators.
