New Brookings podcast ‘Embedding Equality in Education’ shares a collaborative path to advancing gender equality in and through education

O’DONOGHUE: Hi everyone. I am Jennifer O’Donoghue, senior fellow and deputy director of the Center for Universal Education at Brookings. And I am really excited to be kicking off a new podcast from the Brookings Institution called Embedding Equality in Education or the Three E’s podcast. In this podcast, we will be working to amplify the research and the outputs of the work that we do with our partners around the world who are advancing gender equality in and through education.

We’ll be digging into and challenging some of the prevailing narratives around girls’ education, around gender equality, around many other topics that are related to that by really examining and reshaping discourses that too often exclude diverse voices, diverse perspectives. And we’ll be doing this by trying to bridge research with lived experience, connecting some of our research findings and more academic and conceptual things with real-life policy conversations, with action on the ground, and we’re gonna be intentional about bringing in a multitude of voices into those conversations.

Our first season will be focused on the topic of girls’ agency with my wonderful colleague and co-host, Edem Ossai, joining us.

OSSAI: Hi everyone. My name is Edem Ossai. I’m an education leader based in Nigeria and a member of the Learning and Action Alliance for Girls’ Agency. In the first season of this amazing podcast, we’ll be exploring the four key principles of LAAGA’s work, researching the lived experiences of girls all over the world, providing real-life experiences and examples, researching the findings and policy-relevant conversations.

We’ll be highlighting perspectives from LAAGA members worldwide across 15 different countries, addressing representation gaps in global education research, amplifying the knowledge and experiences of scholars and practitioners from the Global South, all making sure to center girls’ voices in the conversation.
