Working toward more gender equal outcomes through collaborative and participatory approaches to education research, policy, and practice

The Gender Equality in and Through Education team in the Center for Universal Education works to advance the status of gender-transformative research, policymaking, and practice in global education, seeking to examine the root causes of inequality, actively challenge discriminatory social norms, policies, practices, and power relations, and strengthen the agency of girls, women, and gender-nonconforming people.

At the core of our work is collaborative and participatory approaches to education research, policy, and systems transformation. Through these approaches, we strive to build authentic, reciprocal relationships between actors in the Global South and Global North by intentionally sharing power and fostering critical reflection on global hierarchies in the fields of gender, education, and development. By engaging in deep and lasting collaboration with our partners, we seek to amplify and center local knowledge, research, and experiences, and to better inform policies and practices that transform outcomes for gender equality and social inclusion for systemically marginalized people around the world.
