Peter Mandaville was a nonresident senior fellow with the Project on U.S. Relations with the Islamic World, and is the director of the Ali Vural Ak Center for Islamic Studies and associate professor of government at George Mason University. From 2011 to 2012 he served on the Secretary of State's policy planning staff as an advisor on U.S. policy in the Middle East. He has testified before congress on political Islam and appeared widely on national and international media outlets. He is the author or editor of several books including Global Political Islam (2007), Politics from Afar: Transnational Diasporas & Networks (2012), and Transnational Muslim Politics: Reimagining the Umma (2001).
