Despite President Obama’s compelling efforts to court India for its increasingly pivotal geopolitical role, the inherited American relationship with Pakistan complicates his efforts, writes Bruce Riedel. Similar to JFK’s paradigm for relationships with South Asian powers, Riedel writes that Obama ought to continue cooperation with India on counterterrorism efforts against the Taliban, the LeT and the attempted restoration of an Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.
