Visit by President Kim Dae-jung of South Korea to the United States

Summary

South Korea's President Kim Dae-jung will be one the first foreign leaders to meet with President George W. Bush. President Kim will visit the White House on March 7. At the March 1st briefing, two Brookings scholars and an outside expert will provide background on the topics the two leaders will discuss, as well as a more general appraisal of current and future issues in East Asia. All three panelists have recently visited the region.

Items on the agenda for the Bush-Kim meeting are likely to include relations between the two Koreas and between the United States and Korea, the status of North Korea's nuclear and missile programs, and the new U.S. administration's policy toward North Korea.
