Atenea

Atenea Rosado-Viurques co-leads the Learning and Action Alliance for Girls’ Agency (LAAGA), a community of practice of 23 different organizations and gender and education leaders across 15 countries in the Global South. Together, they work to understand what helps girls make decisions for themselves and how education policy at the global and local levels can support them. Prior to joining CUE, her work focused on participatory, feminist, decolonial, and teacher training and abolitionist approaches to education in emergencies, militarism and education, peace and human rights education. She has over 10 years of experience re-thinking the intersections of policy, practice, education and global development, and has worked at the Collective for Education, Decoloniality, and Emergencies (CEDE!), the Ministry of Public Education of Mexico, the American Friends Service Committee, Amnesty International, and as a high school language teacher. She holds an M.A. in international educational development from Columbia University and is a joint PhD candidate in anthropology and education at the University of Pennsylvania. Her research has been funded by the Open Society Foundation and the Mellon Foundation.
