Helyn Kim is a postdoctoral fellow at the Center for Universal Education at the Brookings Institution. Her research focuses on understanding a broad range of skills that contribute to learning and development in all children. She works on the Skills for a Changing World project, which seeks to ensure all children have high-quality learning opportunities that build the breadth of skills necessary to succeed in the current global economy.

Dr. Kim received her Ph.D. in Education from the University of Virginia. Her doctoral work provided a multi-dimensional approach to understanding the nature and interplay among the foundations of learning and development in school-aged children. She has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals based on this work. Prior to her doctoral studies, she earned a BA in psychology from the University of Virginia, a MA in pre-K primary education and early childhood developmental risks from the University of Virginia, and a MA in applied developmental psychology from George Mason University; she also taught preschool special education for three years in Fairfax County Public Schools.
