Assem Dandashly was a joint visiting fellow for the Brookings Doha Center and Qatar University. He is an assistant professor at the Department of Political Science at Maastricht University in the Netherlands. Dandashly’s research focuses on comparative politics and international relations in addition to political economy.

Prior to joining Maastricht University in 2012, Dandashly was a research fellow at the Kolleg-Forschergruppe “The Transformative Power of Europe” Freie Universität Berlin.

Assem was a research associate at the Centre for Competition Policy at the University of East Anglia in the United Kingdom. He was also a research assistant and sessional instructor at the University of Victoria in Canada. In 2008-2009, Dandashly was a visiting researcher at the Caracow University of Economics (CUE) in Poland and the Central European University in Budapest. Before moving to Victoria, he was a Fulbright Graduate Student at Marquette University, in Wisconsin, United States.

One of Dandashly’s areas of research focuses on the euro in Central and East European countries in addition to its crisis. His background and interest in the Middle East and North African region also expands on the European Union-MENA relations in the wake of the Arab Spring, with a concentration on democracy promotion and security. Dandashly holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Victoria, British Colombia, Canada.
