Immigration policy continues to be a central issue in the 2024 presidential election. Each party campaign has described the current southern border immigration situation differently: either as being managed, or as a crisis. Voters need to know: who is immigrating and how, what are the policies in place to manage immigration, what are the limitations and opportunities?
On September 23, Governance Studies at Brookings held a conversation moderated by Interim Vice President and Director Camille Busette with Brookings experts, Elaine Kamarck and William Galston, along with Doris Meissner of the Migration Policy Institute who will discussed why southern border immigration has become such a hot button issue, how the campaigns are messaging about it, the facts on the ground, and the possibilities for addressing southern border migration.
