Since the launch of AmeriCorps in 1994, more than a half million Americans have served in the program and helped support local nonprofits and communities in activities across a range of issues, including education, poverty alleviation and disaster support. On May 13, the Brookings Institution and the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) hosted a forum with leading policy and public service experts about the role of AmeriCorps in helping to create future public service leaders. As part of the briefing, CNCS released a new study that evaluates AmeriCorps’ long-term impact on members.

The program featured remarks by U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore (D-Wis.) and U.S. Rep Chris Shays (R-CT) and a presentation of the new study results by Robert Grimm of CNCS.
