With the intensification of fighting in Sri Lanka, the country’s internal conflict is again gaining international attention. Of primary concern are the displaced civilians who are caught in the middle of the fighting.
On April 20, the Brookings-Bern Project on Internal Displacement will host a discussion offering different perspectives on the humanitarian crisis in Sri Lanka. Panelists include Amin Awad, Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees representative in Sri Lanka; Michael S. Owen, acting deputy assistant secretary for South & Central Asian Affairs at the U.S. Department of State; Anna Neistat, senior researcher at Human Rights Watch; and Muttukrishna Sarvananthan, founder of the Point Pedro Institute in Sri Lanka. After the program, the panelists will take audience questions.
