With a new administration in Washington and a country facing a global pandemic and an economic crisis, there is no lack of opportunity for fresh ideas and collaboration with the newest class of young, diverse, and influential mayors across the country.
On Thursday, March 11, the Metropolitan Policy Program hosted two such leaders—Mayor Todd Gloria of San Diego, Calif. and Mayor Steven Reed of Montgomery, Ala.—for a conversation about their visions for governing and the value of place-based solutions. Brookings Vice President Amy Liu moderated a wide-ranging conversation addressing jobs and the economy, racial equity, climate and resilience, and governing in a time of extreme partisanship.
