Critical minerals are an increasingly important component of the world’s energy needs and are crucial for the development of next-generation technologies. African countries’ supply of these minerals has the potential to substantially shape their development trajectories if policies, infrastructure needs, and investment strategies are adequately developed.
On September 30, the Africa Growth Initiative (AGI) at Brookings launched its new report on the prospects of developing a U.S.-Africa critical mineral supply chain. Based on extensive research and consultations with stakeholders in public, private, and multinational sectors, this report analyzes how U.S. and African governments can mobilize private financing to modernize Africa’s mining sector and facilitate mutually beneficial trade and investment between Africa and the United States.
