The rise of China and its impact on the world may be the most important geopolitical event of the 21st Century. The Brookings Institution’s new China Initiative aims to analyze the issues facing China and the problems and opportunities that China’s rise presents to other nations, as well as to make recommendations to policymakers on these challenges. The Initiative’s public work begins with a series of panel discussions on China’s emergence and its impact on both the U.S. and the Asia-Pacific region. The economic, political, and security implications will be analyzed by expert panelists, who will provide perspectives from the viewpoints of the U.S., China’s neighbors, and China itself.
