ABOUT THE BROWN CENTER CHALKBOARD

The Brown Center Chalkboard is a forum where Brookings scholars and guest contributors analyze pressing issues in education policy, politics, and practice. It brings evidence to bear on complex issues in American education in a format that is accessible to the Chalkboard’s broad audience. The Chalkboard covers all facets and levels of the U.S. education system, including early childhood education, K-12, and higher education. Its purpose is to inform decision-makers in education—e.g., parents, educators, and policymakers—with rigorous research and diverse perspectives.

The Brown Center Chalkboard launched in January 2013.

SUBMISSIONS FOR EDITORIAL CONSIDERATION

The Brown Center welcomes submissions from external (i.e., non-Brookings) contributors who would like to share their work with Chalkboard readers. This includes summaries of recent, policy-relevant studies and overviews of research literature that inform a current issue in U.S. education policy or practice. Chalkboard posts are approximately 1,000 words in length.

Contributors can submit either a draft or a brief description of a potential Chalkboard post. We encourage contributors to contact us before drafting a piece so that we can provide feedback on the proposed idea. Although the Chalkboard editorial team considers all submissions, many submissions are not selected for publication.

Please submit ideas, drafts, and questions to [email protected].
