How to actually share America’s defense burden with allies
CINCU, ROMANIA - FEBRUARY 9: A NATO soldier uses a communication system on top of a High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) launcher on Feb. 9, 2026, in Cincu, Romania. Dynamic Front 26 is the largest U.S. Army-led artillery exercise ever held in Europe. It brings together NATO allies to practice the Eastern Flank Deterrence Line strategy, focusing on high-tech coordination across land, air, sea, and cyber domains. The exercise will test how quickly troops can make decisions and strike targets across national borders, by using live-fire drills at sites like Romania's Cincu Training Area. The exercise is running from Jan. 26 until Feb. 13, 2026.
