Strengthening the Federal/State Partnership on Passenger Rail

Robert Puentes presented this testimony before the House of Representatives Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials and the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure in advance of the expiration of the Passenger Rail Investment and Improvement Act, which emphasized better rail performance and demanded a commitment from Amtrak’s state partners. He discussed Amtrak’s performance and the partnerships between the federal government, Amtrak, and the states, highlighting the ways in which states have provided lessons the nation should build on going forward.
