Political, Military and Economic Crises Brewing in Egypt

Egyptians voted in their first democratic elections only to have the ruling military leaders dismiss Parliament and issue a slate of pronouncements constraining the powers of the eventual winner, underscoring that, once again, the military is Egypt’ s governing authority. Senior Fellow Tamara Wittes, director of the Saban Center for Middle East Policy, says this disturbing development is an indication of broader and more troubling crises that are brewing.
