National Security Depends on a Strong American Economy

At a recent Brookings event on the U.S. defense budget and American power, Alice Rivlin says that if America’s economy is weak and constrained by massive foreign debt, the U.S. military strength is weakened as well. She says that the first thing we need is a strong, growing and resilient American economy; the second thing we need is not to be dependent on China, and way down the list is a strong military.
