The G-8 nations are Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States. Since 1975, leaders of these nations (Canada and Russia joined after the original six) have met annually to discuss economic and security issues of common concern. The 2013 summit was held June 17-18 in Northern Ireland.
