A good education is important to achieving the American Dream

As the income gap between the well-educated and the less-educated has grown steadily over the last four decades, it is apparent that working hard is no longer enough to lift families and individuals out of poverty. Improving social mobility means improving Americans’ access to quality education, as well. Chapter 5 in a report from the AEI-Brookings Working Group on Poverty and Opportunity calls on policy makers to overhaul preschool and postsecondary education in a comprehensive fashion to reverse this crippling trend.
