Blood and faith in Afghanistan: A June 2016 update
In a new paper, Vanda Felbab-Brown discusses the evolving international support for Afghanistan since the formation of its National Unity Government and the planning for a post-2016 U.S. military and NATO presence in Afghanistan. She also describes key military developments in Afghanistan since the fall of 2014 and the intensity of the Taliban’s battlefield thrust. The paper also analyzes President Ghani’s outreach to Pakistan and the effort to negotiate with the Taliban, as well as the state of governance in Afghanistan more broadly, and the way it affects Taliban negotiations and the security and economy of the country.
