On July 14, the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, plus Germany and the European Union, announced a deal with Iran to limit Tehran’s development of nuclear weapons in exchange for lifting economic sanctions over a 15 year period. The agreement now goes to the U.S. Congress, which has 60 days to approve or reject the deal. President Obama has said that he will veto any legislation that “prevents the successful implementation of this deal.”

On Thursday, July 16 at 10:00 a.m. (EDT), in a Brookings Live online event via Spreecast, three Brookings experts will discuss the terms of the Iran nuclear agreement, its ramifications for the region and beyond, and how it plays out in the U.S. political arena. Senior fellows Suzanne Maloney, an expert on Iran; Robert Einhorn, who until May 2013 played a leading role in U.S. policy toward Iran’s nuclear program; and Elaine Kamarck, director of the Center for Effective Public Management and an expert on American policy and politics, will participate and take viewer questions.
