America Strikes Back: What Comes Next?

Brookings scholars will analyze the initial effects – both on the ground and around the world – of U.S. air strikes against Taliban targets in Afghanistan in this latest in a series of timely press briefings on America’s campaign against terrorism. Among the topics to be covered are:

Damage done to military targets in Afghanistan and to the Taliban’s ability to govern
Consequences for Pakistan – a large Muslim country with a sizeable population of Islamic fundamentalists – which is supporting the U.S. strikes.
General lack of public support for the U.S. position in other Muslim countries.
Possible targets in other countries supporting or sheltering terrorists.
Effect of the attacks on U.S. support for Israel, and on the Israeli-Palestinian standoff.
Humanitarian aid issues.

Brookings experts will make brief presentations and answer questions. Participants in this press briefing will include:
