The United States, Long-term Debt and the Need for Economic Stimulus

At a recent event, William Gale discussed the economic situation in the United States, detailing the two main issues facing policy makers: a weak economy in the short-term and a long-term debt problem. He argued that the federal government cannot put off one issue in order to take care of the other, and that it in fact would be more politically expedient to deal with both issues at the same time.
