Robert S. Brookings—founder of the Brookings Institution and longtime benefactor of Washington University in St. Louis—advanced public service as a force for good, a vehicle for positive change and an instrument for solving problems.
In 1916, Brookings worked with other government reformers to create the first private organization devoted to the fact-based study of national public policy. One of his goals was to educate a select corps of public leaders for the challenging work of government.
WashU at Brookings
A century later, WashU at Brookings carries his vision forward.
The Brookings Institution partnered with Washington University in 2009 to create Brookings Executive Education (now WashU at Brookings). WashU Olin and WashU at Brookings provide best-in-class learning for business and government via courses, certificates and custom programs.

Experts consider the Brookings Institution the premier think tank in the country, if not the world. Based in Washington, D.C., the nonprofit, nonpartisan organization conducts independent research on a broad range of economic, social and security issues. Brookings scholars are internationally recognized for their subject-matter expertise.
Founded in 1853, Washington University has a longstanding reputation for excellence in teaching and research. Known for its top-ranked BSBA and EMBA degree programs, Washington University in St. Louis Olin Business School celebrated its centennial in 2017. Olin faculty teach WashU at Brookings courses. These classes combine an in-depth understanding of government and public policy with a command of leadership, management and strategy. In recent years, Olin expanded its global reach through collaborative programs with universities in China, Germany, India, Israel, South Korea and Spain.
