Igor S. Ivanov

Igor S. Ivanov has served as Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation since 1998. He began his career at the prestigious and pro-reform Institute for the World Economy and International Relations, then a division of the USSR Academy of Sciences. In 1973 he entered the Soviet diplomatic corps, where he served as a professional diplomat in various capacities and eventually became the USSR’s Ambassador to Spain in 1991. Ivanov remained in Madrid as the new Russian Federation’s Ambassador until 1994, when he was appointed First Deputy Foreign Minister.
