Carolyn Hsu is Associate Professor of Sociology at Colgate University. Her book on the rise of NGOs in the People’s Republic of China, Social Entrepreneurship and Citizenship in China (Routledge), will be released in early 2017. Her articles on activism, NGOs, social entrepreneurship, and organizational change in China have been published in China Quarterly, Voluntas, Sociological Quarterly, and the Journal of Civil Society, among others. Her first book was Creating Market Socialism: How Ordinary People Are Shaping Class and Status in China (Duke University Press, 2007).
